Power Substations At Risk
There are dozens of attacks on electrical substations across the country each year. In 2015, the Bakersfield attack targeted a substation which services 16,700 Pacific Gas & Electric Co customers. Alarm wires were slashed and critical systems were destroyed. These events can cause blackouts lasting days or weeks, leaving thousands without power.
Most substation security consists of chain-link fences with no monitoring, so there is often no warning when a substation goes down, and no way to track suspects of vandalism.
Using PowerHawk to monitor these substations can help prevent sabotage with remote security measures, and identify damages quickly in the case of an attack.
